Research area and interest
Marta Ruiz Llata received the Doctorate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2005 from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid for her work on optical implementation of neural networks. Since 2011 she is Associate Professor within the Electronics Technology Department at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Her research projects are being involved in the development of optical sensors for industrial and environmental applications and the investigation of machine learning algorithms in instrumentation systems. 
The activities of her research group also include the design and Development of Optoelectronic/Laser Instrumentation Systems (Hardware and Signal Processing) and the Design and Characterization of Lasers and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) and Design of Optical Architectures for optical signal generation (mm-wave and THz) and processing.
Research facilities
•140 m2 of Optoelectronic Laboratories including several Optical Tables for Optical and Electrical Characterization of Optoelectronic Devices.
•Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA)/Monochromators /Fabry-Perot Optical Spectrum Analyzer / Autocorrelator. 
•Argon-ion pumped Ti:Sapphire fempto senconds laser for time-domain measurements and other solid state laser equipment.
•Complete set of optical components and fiber optic devices.
•System for high-frequency semiconductor integrated devices characterization: Wentworth Lab with DC and RF probes.
•RF Signals Generators and Spectrum analyzers up to 140 GHz, 50GHz sampling Scopes, Vector Network Analyzers and High Speed Photodiodes for spectral and temporal studies with capability of on-chip characterization. 
•All sorts of Data Acquisition Boards and FPGA development kits for embedded Instrumentation Systems Development
•Developments tools for Altera FPGAs
