Research area and interests

Prof. Uysal's research interests are in the general area of communication theory and signal processing with a particular emphasis on the physical layer aspects of wireless communication systems in radio and optical frequency bands. His current works focus on terrestrial optical wireless links over atmospheric turbulence channels and address the analysis and design of efficient fading mitigation techniques including adaptive coding and modulation, spatial diversity, and relay-assisted transmission among others.

Research Facilities


· An OWC testbed is planned on the Ozyegin University campus for atmospheric channel measurements (2013-2014). This testbed includes three terrestrial OWC links: One long link will directly connect the Faculty of Engineering to the Student Dormitory. The other two shorter links will be arranged in a dual-hop configuration and connect the same buildings.

· In a joint project with Qatar University (QU) lead by Prof. Uysal, a dual-hop terrestrial OWC link will be installed on QU campus in Doha. Within this project which will start on January 2013, an Anritsu Signal Quality Analyzer (MP1800) and FGPA evaluation boards will be purchased.
