Research area and interests

research interests include optical and microwave communication systems, optical and microwave interactions and applications of special electro-optical devices. Her research currently is focused in the study of multifunctional semiconductor optical amplifier application techniques.

Research Facilities


· The lab is well equipped with optical and microwave test and measurement instruments that cover the optical communications windows and frequencies up to 40 GHz. In general, the instrumentation contains a 40 GHz vector network analyzer, synthesized signal sources, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency and noise meters in the microwave domain; as well as Agilent lightwave test set, optical spectrum analyzer, time domain reflecto-meter, power meter, active and passive components in the optical domain. For network tests there is further instrumentation like DWDM transmission system and bit error rate tester.

· On the other hand, the investigations of advanced modulation formats are supported by programmable, wideband RF transmitter and receiver. For easier upgrade and more configurable setup, It is realised by high speed digitaliser cards connected to personal computers and RF circuits.


· To support design and research, comprehensive simulation capabilities including VPI for optical systems, Agilent ADS, Microwave Office and CST for wireless applications are also used.

· Our optical, microwave and embedded system design capacity allows us to take part in the design, evaluation and measurement of the combined wireless-optical networks.

Measurement Database

· Our lab is relative new in the free space optic regime. Hence we currently have no long term FSO measurement database.
