Research area and interests

The research areas of interest concern theoretical and experimental aspects on:

a) electromagnetic wave propagation at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths

in presence of atmospheric precipitation with particular emphasis to characterization

and modeling of the radio channel, attenuation, wave depolarization, incoherent radiation,

interference due to hydrometeor scatter, precipitation fade countermeasures,

environmental simulators.

b) radarmeteorology with particular emphasis to rain cell modeling, microphysics of precipitation,

radar simulators.

c) radiometry and its application to radio propagation

d) Free Space Optics applications to TLC with particular emphasis to propagation modeling

and channel characterization.

· SMOC (Stochastic Model Of Clouds) simulator to predict cloud attenuation on a

statistical basis . (MATLAB code)

Measurement Database

· Measurements of optical attenuation and atmospheric quantities from October 2003

to June 2007.

o laser attenuation time series by a commercial link Terescope T3000

o visibility time series by a Belfort 6100 visibility sensor (January 2005-June 2007).

o Horizontal and vertical wind speed by an ultrasonic anemometer Metek-1 USA

o Temperature, pressure, humidity, solar radiation and rain rate by a Davis GroWeather station.

· Horizontal visual range measurements at three military airports in Northern Italy from

1991 to 2000 at standard hours 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 21 UTC. The three sites are

Brescia - Ghedi, Novara - Cameri and Piacenza - San Damiano (PC).
